Students for Medical Missions is open to all students on the campus at the Medical College of Ohio and the associated programs at Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo. We believe that medical missionary work is truly a life changing experience, which helps to develop culturally competent health care professionals.

Our group was formed in 1998 after Scott McLean, a senior MD/PhD student, returned from a medical mission in Ayacucho, Peru. Scott met with Todd Brickman, a third year MD/PhD student, who was interested in learning more about participation in medical missions. Both students realized the need for a campus organization which would promote student participation in medical missions. Shortly thereafter, Scott, Todd, and Laura Huggler, a second year physician assistant student, got together and drafted a constitution and by-laws. In September of 1998, Students for Medical Missions was approved as an official organization on the campus at the Medical College of Ohio.
